Ian is a retired Royal Air Force fighter Pilot and civil airline Captain with over 50 years and 20,000 hours flying experience. He currently holds a UK CAA Permit for Commercial Operations (PFCO) for Small Unmanned Surveillance Aircraft (SUSA) and has been actively involved radio controlled aviation vehicles during his career.

Ian has had a distinguished career in the military, initially on completion of the Central Flying School course as a Qualified Flying Instructor (QFI), and flew military fast jets including the English Electric Lightning. His civil commercial career included extensive experience operating the Boeing 737-200, B757 & B767-200/300 series aircraft for a major UK airline.

Ian has completed the British National Unmanned Aerial Systems Certificate (Small - 20kg) (BNUC-S) ground school & examination, operations manual, CAA flight tests and has been issued with a multi-rotorcraft PFCO , and has recently commenced trading as Video Drone Services (VDS). Currently (with approval for night time operations), VDS has a fleet of 8 drones available for aerial photography (including interactive spherical panoramas), videography & geo-referenced orthomosaic mapping.

Ian has co-built a Rutan Long-Ez canard 2 seat aircraft (G-BOOX) which he now owns and still flies.

He is a member of the Association of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems UK, Light Aircraft Association and British Model Flying Association.
